Ansonia Statue Clocks
The Ansonia Statue Clock is another line of mantel clocks that the company produced back in the late 1800. Some of the most famous statue clocks that you will find are made of iron and bronze. The Ansonia clock company produced a large variety of statue clocks, some of their most popular clocks included, the "Racine" the French poet, the troubadour, Don Juan, Vendome, cherubs, Indians on horses, the opera clock, the music and poetry clock and many more.
The sizes of the clocks varied from nine inches to over 20 inchesin height, the widths averaged around six inches. The dials were mostly porcelain with a brass bezel and beveled glass. The Ansonia Clock Company also featured most of the statue clocks with an open escapement. (An open escapement is a visible wheel with teeth and an anchor that allows movement to the wheel to be controlled as each tooth of the wheel clicks off and by doing so it gives impulses to either a pendulum or balance. The open escapement is located on the dial above the hand movement.
Some of the Ansonia statue clocks also have the trademark located on the face under the hand movement as well as on the back of the movement; it is the capital A in a square, inside a triangle. Most of the clock faces also have the words manufactured by the Ansonia Clock Company New York United States of America. The clocks that were manufactured before the 1880’s will have Connecticut etched on the back of the clocks movement. The clocks that were manufactured after 1880 will have New York inscribed on the back of the clocks movement.
The Ansonia statue clock has three top features; it is an art piece, a time piece and a valuable heirloom to be cherished by anyone who is fortunate enough to own one. The Ansonia Statue Clock still remains one of the most sort after collectables today.
