Depending on your taste, the clock companies have made a clock for you. Decorative clocks have been around for over a hundred years. The clock companies after the basic models were designed decided that people wanted a clock that represents their personality as well as their style. The decorative clocks range from 7 inches in height to well over 5 feet in height.

When the clock business started, most of the clock casings where made of wood, however they soon started designing casings made from porcelain, marble, cast iron, brass, bronze, glass and other materials. The clocks took on many different shapes such as a banjo, a figurine, mantle, cuckoo and a large variety of other styles as wells. Some of the clocks had etchings on the front as well as painted scenes. The decorative clocks offered a variety of colors on their porcelain clocks including pinks, blues and greens along with painted flowers, such as pansies or roses. The bezels were mostly brass with beveled glass to protect the dials. The clock dials were made out of paper, porcelain, metal or rubber. The numbers on the dials were either roman numerals or Arabic numerals.

The clock companies eventually designed clocks for advertising purposes, such as soda, beer, tractors and cars. The tradition is carried on today were in just about every bar or pub you enter has the traditional beer clock above the bar. This is also common in a lot the local mom and pop stores and garages, where you will find either a clock advertising an oil product, a tractor or a particular brand of soda pop.
